Join OWAA for its 81st Conference!

Join members of the nation’s best-known outdoor communicators’ group in Bismarck, N.D., June 21-24, 2008. An overview of this year’s conference as well as the meeting agenda, helpful links, and travel/hotel information can be found at http://www.owaa.org/conf-2008/index.php. To register: Click Here

Where do you want your conference in 2011?

Go to OWAA’s Online Forum to view the four finalists for OWAA’s 2011 conference. Affordable sleeping rooms and reasonable transportation rates to/from the conference city are among top considerations. A recommendation will be made to OWAA’s board of directors by June 24, 2008. Express your opinion on OWAA’s Online Forum.

New! Membership recruitment contest

Jim Smith and the Membership Recruitment Committee announces a new contest for members!
Goal: 100 new members by the OWAA conference, June 21, 2008. Awards will be given for members who sign up a minimum of three new members or more. The more members you sign up, the greater the rewards.

  • Member signing up three (3) new members prior to the deadline will receive an OWAA cap.
  • Members signing up six (6) new members prior to the deadline will receive an OWAA golf shirt.
  • Members signing up ten (10) new members prior to the deadline will receive an OWAA 3-in-one jacket.

Since Smith mentioned this potential contest in the December issue of Outdoors Unlimited, any member who signed up a candidate who then became a new member from December 1 on will be eligible. NOTE: For the purpose of this contest the Membership Recruitment Committee defines a new member as an individual and not a supporting group, business or agency.

Editors wanted for Meet the Editors event!

At the One-on-One with Editors event at OWAA’s conference, attendees meet with acquisitions editors of outdoors magazines and book publishers to discuss their editorial needs. A must-attend conference event for members building their careers, this also is a great opportunity for editors to pick up new contributors for their publications. This year’s event takes place Saturday, June 21, from 1-4 p.m., in Bismarck, N.D. If you're an acquisitions editor and would like to participate, please contact krhoades@owaa.org or 406-728-7434.

Urban bowhunting – what’s your view?

In last month’s Outdoors Unlimited, President Rich Patterson tells the story of urging the Cedar Rapids, Iowa, City Council to manage the city’s burgeoning deer herd via controlled hunting. Ultimately, Cedar Rapids approved bowhunting, and three successful seasons have passed. More recently, OWAA member Bill Schneider in his New West column advocates letting bowhunters solve the urban deer problem in Montana’s Capitol, Helena. Read both columns and express your opinions on OWAA’s Online Forum.
