Winter Board Meeting
OWAA’s next board meeting will be held Jan. 14, 2007,
in Orlando, Fla., host city of the Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show,
an event sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. OWAA will conduct
its business, shake hands with many longtime supporters and highlight benefits
of affiliation with our group via a press conference scheduled for Jan. 13.
We’re looking into having future winter board meetings at other trade shows,
including the Outdoor Retailer Show and the North American Nature Photography
Association annual meeting.
Enter Excellence in Craft Contests
Don’t forget about OWAA’s contests. Thousands of
dollars were distributed to OWAA members who entered and won awards in the 2006
Excellence in Craft contests. Our sponsors want to hand you a check at next
year’s awards banquet in Roanoke, Va. 2007 contest rules will be published in
the September OU.
Roanoke Conference
All systems are go for OWAA’s 80th annual conference,
to be held in Roanoke, Va., June 16-19, 2007. According to Catherine Fox,
tourism director of the Roanoke Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau,
accommodations and outdoors venues are set, and efforts are underway to invite
other state/regional outdoors communicators groups to join us. The Virginia
Outdoor Writers Association is considering holding its annual in conjunction
with ours. Meanwhile, Conference Program Chair Phil Bloom is finalizing the
meeting agenda. Details will be published at
http://www.owaa.org/Conf_2007/index.php.
October is Dues Month
Annual dues statements will be mailed this month to all
individual and supporting members. Statements will come with an Outdoor

Participate in OWAA's New Web Advertising Program
OWAA has a new Web advertising program open to all
supporting members. Help get the word out to supporting members you may
personally know! Active, senior-active and life members in good standing can
earn 20-percent commissions by signing up advertisers for the OWAA Web site. Ads
are displayed on OWAA's most viewed Web pages, and ads must represent newsworthy
announcements about products, media services, company promotions and other items
of interest to the OWAA membership. Get all the
details.
Each One, Reach One
W.H. (Chip) Gross, Membership Recruitment Committee
chairman, asks each OWAA member to recruit one new member to our organization
each year. Who on your list of contacts would benefit from OWAA membership? Send
names and contact information to Kevin Rhoades at
krhoades@owaa.org or by completing the
form in the June OU, page 7. Rhoades will send potential members
information about OWAA. Thanks for your help!
