Doris Matheny Honored With Outdoor Writers Association of America’s Jackie Pfeiffer Memorial Award

MISSOULA, Mont. – At its annual conference in Lake Charles, La., Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA) announced the winner of its Jackie Pfeiffer Memorial Award. The Jackie Pfeiffer Memorial Award honors the special qualities Jackie Pfeiffer brought to OWAA and into the personal lives of members. It encourages everyone to exhibit these qualities in their lives. Recipients exemplify Pfeiffer’s genuine warmth and radiance, goodwill, helpfulness, generosity and kindness to others, especially at conference. OWAA members and spouses are eligible.

The 2006 recipient of the Jackie Pfeiffer Memorial Award is Doris Matheny of Greensburg, Pa. She and her husband, G. Edwin Matheny, are coordinators of the Nutty Irishman Bash, a longtime highlight of the annual OWAA conference. When presenting the award, OWAA member Susan Sosin described Matheny as “a nurturing helper, a spark who brings people together, one who gives of herself whether someone asks for her help or just looks like she or he could use a friend.”
