John Beath Elected Vice President of Outdoor Writers Association of America

Missoula, Mont. – At its 79th annual conference in Lake Charles, La., Outdoor Writers association of America (OWAA) elected John Beath third vice president of the association for 2006-07.

A resident of Monroe, Wash., Beath is a freelance writer and photographer for publications such as Salmon & Steelhead Journal, Trailer Boats Magazine, Fishing & Hunting News, Game & Fish Publications, North American Fishing Club and many others. He is field editor for Alaska Angler Publications and Northwest editor and Northwest angler columnist for Western Outdoors. Beath’s work also can be found online at his 12 outdoor Web sites, including www.Halibut.net and his most recent launch, www.LetsTalkOutdoors.com.

A pilot, Beath also takes on aerial photo assignments. He has held a U.S. Coast Guard master’s license for two decades. Beath comes to his officer position from a seat on OWAA’s board and has been a member of OWAA for 15 years.

“It is a tremendous honor and privilege to be elected third vice president of the world’s largest outdoor communicators organization,” Beath said.

“During my years of service and beyond, I plan to work closely with the board of directors and general membership to help OWAA become stronger and more beneficial to its members. One of my main goals while in office is to help OWAA’s members learn more about the many new and exciting electronic means of communications via the Internet. Podcasting, RSS feeds, blogging and forums are just the tip of this digital iceberg that our members can profit from in the future. With these new mediums, we as outdoor communicators can reach more people through our work and convey the benefits and enjoyment of the great outdoors.”

OWAA Executive Director Kevin Rhoades affirmed, “John brings a wide range of entrepreneurial experience to OWAA’s leadership, including strengths in electronic technologies such as Web site management.”

The 1,600-member Outdoor Writers Association of America is the oldest and largest association of professional outdoor communicators in the United States. It was organized in 1927 by members of the Izaak Walton League of America and includes professional communicators dedicated to sharing the outdoor experience. OWAA’s professionals include writers, photographers, outdoors radio- and television show hosts, book authors, videographers, lecturers and artists. The association is headquartered in Missoula, Mont.
