July 26, 2006 For more information contact: Chris Madson Honored with Outdoor Writers Association of America’s Excellence in Craft AwardMISSOULA, Mont. – On June 20, 2006, at its annual conference in Lake Charles, La., the Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA) announced the winner of its coveted Excellence in Craft Award. The award is given annually to an OWAA member for outstanding effort in upholding the OWAA Creed and continued excellence in craft. This year’s recipient is Chris Madson of Cheyenne, Wyo. Madson follows in the footsteps of his father, John B. Madson, who won the esteemed award 28 years ago. Chris Madson is editor of Wyoming Wildlife and a freelance writer and photographer. With Madson at the helm of Wyoming Wildlife, the magazine has won numerous awards from the Association of Conservation Information (ACI), including best magazine in the country in 1986, 1991, 1993, 2000 and 2001. Madson also has been recognized for his writing, winning the Wyoming Wildlife Federation’s Conservation Communicator of the Year Award and the Izaak Walton League of America’s William Vogt Award for Excellence in Communication. He also won Ducks Unlimited’s 2005 Wetland Conservation Achievement Award, an annual award that recognizes excellence in conservation communications. Madson served on ACI’s board of directors and as the group’s treasurer. He also is active in OWAA’s board of directors and is currently serving his third term. The Excellence in Craft Award was presented to Madson by Kay Morton Ellerhoff on behalf of Tom Huggler, the 2005 award recipient.
